TITLE: Ascentia, CardWizard, A20/220 Conflict

SUMMARY

   The multimedia Ascentia J may experience an address conflict with
   the CardWizard add-in card.

   This issue affects all multimedia Ascentia J systems or other
   multimedia computers using SystemSoft's CardWizard.

ISSUE

   An address conflict may result if the sound chip in the Ascentia J
   multimedia computer is configured to use port address 220h, and
   a PC card using CardWizard is configured for port address A20h.

BACKGROUND

   By default, CardWizard is configured to decode I/O (input/output)
   by looking at the first 10 bits of a port address. When the
   hexadecimal numbers A20h and 220h are translated to binary form,
   they look the same if only the first ten digits are read.

      A20h = 101000100000
      220h =   1000100000

   When reading from left to right, if only the first ten digits are
   read, these two numbers look identical.

ACTION

   To correct this problem the user must modify the CSALLOC.EXE file
   parameters. To do so, follow the steps listed below:

   1. In the Cardwiz directory, enter the following:
       config /all
   2. Press the <Alt+U> keys to open the utilities menu.
   3. Press the down arrow key to Binary Adaptation and press the
       <Enter> key.
   4.  Press the <Alt+O> keys.
   5. Press the down arrow key to CSALLOC.EXE and press the <Enter>
       key.
   6. Press the down arrow key to /IODECODE and press the <Alt+E>
       keys to edit the file. The Default value will be A. Change
       this value to C.
   7. Press the <Enter> key twice.
   8. Press the <Alt+S> keys to save the changes and then press the
       <Esc> key.
   9. Press the <Alt+F> keys to open the file menu.
   10. Press the <X> key to exit the configuration utility.
   11. Reboot the system.
