      Notes:

In addition to the 640x480x16 color mode provided by the Cirrus
Logic GD5465 device driver, you can select a 640x480x16 color
mode by using the Standard VGA driver that is provided by
Microsoft from the Change Display Type dialog box.

In order to select 800x600x16 colors, you must select the Super
VGA driver that is provided by Microsoft from the Change Display
      Type dialog box.

Refresh rates listed are supported by the computer. Actual rates
available will depend on the capability of the display monitor
      attached to the computer.

A refresh rate designated with an "i" indicates the rate is
      interlaced.

  1.1 Driver Limitations

The NT 4.0 driver supports Open GL applications. In 8 bit per pixel,
and 24 bit per pixel modes, it runs unaccelerated in software. In
16 bit per pixel, and 32 bit per pixel modes, it runs accelerated
in hardware. The hardware accelerated color depths will provide
better video performance than the software emulated modes. The user
may see some discoloration when running software emulated modes.

2.0 Installing the Device Drivers

      2. Select Display icon

      3. Select Settings

      4. Select Color Palette and select 16 colors, 256 colors, 65536,
          or 16 million colors

      5. To select Desktop resolution size, go to the Desktop area and
use the slide bar to change resolution to 640x480, 800x600,
          1024x768, 1280x1024, or 1600x1200.

      6. Select Test to test the resolution

      7. Select OK for Testing mode

If the display test screen is good, select Yes when the Test Mode
          dialog box appears.

If the display test screen is bad, select No. WinNt give you a
          message.

      8. If the display screen was good and you selected Yes, click OK to
close Display properties box. Refresh rate, color and resolution
are changed without rebooting the computer.

3.2 Changing Refresh Rate, Color Depth and Resolution On the Fly
      without rebooting

      1. Select Control Panel from the Main group.

      2. Select Display icon.

      3. Select Color Palette and select desired color depth.

      4. To select Desktop resolution size, go to the Desktop area
and use the slide bar to change to desired resolution.

      5. Click Apply button to Change refresh rate, color depth
and resolution without rebooting your computer.

  3.3 DDC Monitor Detection

VESA Display Data Channel DDC detection is possible in Windows NT.
This feature enables Windows NT to query the monitor, and if the
monitor is DDC compliant, to return specific detailed information
about the monitor. This information includes the manufacturer,
model number, maximum resolution, maximum refresh rates, and other
      monitor-specific details.

To use DDC, repeat steps 1 and 2 from section 3.0 above. You will
see the Display Settings dialog box. If your monitor is DDC
compliant, the Color Palette, Desktop Area, and Refresh
Frequency drop-down boxes will display what your monitor supports.
However, if you select the button marked List All Modes, you will
see everything that the graphics system supports. These may not
be the same settings your monitor supports.

For example, if your monitor's highest resolution is 1024x768,
that is the maximum setting you will see listed in the Desktop
Area drop-down box. However, under List All Modes you will see
higher resolutions because the graphics chip can support them.

If you select an unsupported mode from List All Modes, your
monitor might display the graphics improperly.

If you upgrade to a DDC monitor that supports higher resolutions,
the available settings in the Desktop Area drop-down box will
change to reflect the new resolutions. This same concept applies
to Color Palette and Refresh Frequency.

3.4 Interaction of the Refresh Frequency, Color Palette, and Desktop Area

When you use the values available in the Color Palette, Desktop
Area, and Refresh Frequency drop-down boxes it is important to
      understand the interaction among them.

The Desktop Area, or resolution, determines the availability of
refresh rates and color depths. All the available combinations of
resolution, color depth, and refresh rates which are supported are
shown in section 1.0 above. Your monitor may or may not support all
these combinations (see 3.3 for details about DDC monitor operation).

For example, you may have the Desktop Area set to 800x600 with a
Color Palette of 16.8 million colors and a refresh rate of 85Hz. If
you adjust the Desktop Area to 1024x768, the Color Palette will
automatically switch down to 65536 colors (see table in section 1.0).

By understanding the interaction between Desktop Area, Refresh
Frequency and Color Palette, you can arrive at a comfortable display
      setting for your work.
