2.0 Installing the S3 Video Device Driver for Windows 3.1x or
     Windows for Workgroups
______________________________________________________________

Note: At present, Windows 3.1x does not include the correct display
driver for the S3 Trio3D chip set. For best results, install
the video device driver supplied with this README file.

Follow these instructions for an initial installation of the
Trio3D video device driver. See section 4.0 "Updating the Video
Device Driver" for replacing the Trio3D device drivers.

 1. Start Windows in VGA mode. For instructions on switching to VGA
mode, see section 4.0, step 1.

 2. Exit from Windows.

     a. Click on FILE on the Program Manager menu bar.
     b. Select EXIT WINDOWS from the File pull-down menu.
     c. Select OK to confirm the request.

 3. Switch to the WINDOWS directory (type CD\WINDOWS, and press
     Enter).

 4. Type SETUP, and press Enter. Information about the current
     Windows configuration appears.

 5. Move the highlight bar to the DISPLAY entry and press Enter.
"Display" here means a monitor mode or video mode provided by a
     video device driver.

 6. Move the highlight bar to OTHER (at the end of the list) and
     press Enter.

 7. Insert the S3 Trio3D Windows Drivers diskette into drive A and
     press Enter.

 8. Select the desired resolution and press Enter. Refer to the
information that comes with your monitor to determine which
     resolutions your monitor supports.

 9. Press Enter to complete the changes.

 10. IMPORTANT: If you get a message that the driver is already
installed, press Esc to replace the driver.

 11. If you are prompted to insert a diskette, type A:\ and press
Enter. When the Setup is complete, the DOS prompt appears.

 12. At the DOS prompt Type A:\REF-COPY and press ENTER.

 13. Remove the diskette; then type WIN, and press Enter to start
Windows. The new video device driver is now installed and is
     controlling your monitor.

 14. Repeat this procedure for other resolutions if desired.

3.0 Changing the Video Settings or Refresh Rate
________________________________________________

To change the video settings or refresh rate:

 1. Start Windows.

 2. In the Main window, double-click on the Control Panel icon.

 3. Double-click on the S3 Refresh Rate icon. The screen appearance
can be changed using the Desktop area, Color depth, Refresh
     rate, and Font size settings.

 4. When changing only the Refresh rate make your selection then
click on the Set button and follow the on screen directions.

 5. When changing the Desktop area or Color depth, make your selections
then click on the OK button and follow the on screen directions.

Note: DDC monitor detection is not supported on Windows 3.1x and
       Windows for Workgroups.

4.0 Updating the Video Device Driver
_____________________________________

To update the video device driver:

 1. Select the VGA device driver to control your monitor during the
update procedure. This ensures that the video device driver
that you are updating is not the same one that is currently
controlling your monitor. Use the following procedure:

     a. Start Windows.
     b. In the Main window, double-click on WINDOWS SETUP.
     c. In the Windows Setup window, select OPTIONS from the menu
         bar.
     d. Select CHANGE SYSTEM SETTINGS from the Options pull-down
         menu.
     e. In the Change System Settings window, click on DISPLAY.
     f. Click on the down arrow at the Display field.
     g. In the pull-down menu, click on the VGA driver; then click
         on OK.
     h. Click on CURRENT to use the currently installed VGA driver,
         and click on OK.
     i. Restart Windows. The VGA driver is now controlling your
         monitor.

 2. Delete the existing S3 video device driver files to prevent the
pull-down menu from becoming filled with multiple versions of
     the same file.

     a. Open a DOS window.
     b. Switch to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory and find a file
named OEMx.INF (where x is a number). If there is more than
one of these files, use a text editor to view the files and
verify which one is the S3 video device driver file (near
the beginning of the file, you will see "S3 Trio3D Windows
         Drivers Disk").
     c. Delete the S3 video device driver file(s).

 3. Proceed with the installation instructions in section 2.0
"Installing the S3 Video Device Driver for Windows 3.1x or
     Windows for Workgroups."
