Instructions For Drop 'Em

Introduction

Drop 'Em is a one or two player game for the IBM PC
and compatibles. It requires a 80286 processor or better and
a VGA graphics card. The Sound Blaster sound card is also
supported.

Starting up

From the DOS command line execute Drop 'Em by
typing DROPEM then pressing return. You will prompted as to
whether you wish to use a Sound Blaster card. Press Y for yes
or N for no. You will now see the main menu. Do not run Drop
'Em from windows, as you may find it runs too slowly

Main Menu
------------
The options are as follows:

One Player:- Starts a one player game.

Two Player:- Starts a two player game.

Man Versus Machine:- Starts a two player game in which
player one is Human and player two is computer controlled.

Define Keys:- This is where you define your playing keys. The
default keys are:
		Space to drop
		Left cursor to move left
		Right cursor to move right
		Up arrow, anticlockwise rotate
		Down arrow, clockwise rotate

Set Speed:- Here you can set each players speed individually,
this allows adjustment for machine speed, and to even out a
match between uneven players

Set Options:- You will be asked several questions to which you
should reply Y or N. These are discussed below.

	Extended Shape Set:
When selected this will include several more difficult
shapes in the game.

	Grid Pattern Shapes:
When selected the shapes will be made out lots of
smalls squares, rather than being solid. This is the default
setting.

	Look Ahead:
This selects whether a look ahead box showing the next
shape to fall should be displayed. This is on as a default.

	Two Player Duel:

This selects whether a two player match is a duel, or a
contest of normal tetris. When duel is on, if a player gets
a complete row it not only disappears from his game grid,
but also generates a random line of blocks which is added
to the bottom of his opponents game grid. This option is
ON as a default.

Back on the main menu now, the Game info option shows the
credits and registering info, and Exit obviously quits the
program.

When you exit, any changes to the keys, speed or options will
be saved ready for next time you play.

How to Play
------------

Drop 'Em is a shape dropping game in which you guide
falling shapes, and try to make complete rows of blocks. When
you make a row of blocks it dissappears, and all the stacked
blocks move down a row. You lose when you have no place
left to put your blocks. If you wish to end a game prematurely
press the Escape key.

In two player mode the game is much the same, only
more competitive and fun. If two player duel was selected from
the options menu then when you get a line of blocks, a random
line of blocks will be added to the bottom of your opponents
grid. This soon sorts the men from the boys!

When the game ends, you will be told your scores, and who
was the first to die.

Forthcoming Attractions
-----------------------

Things I hope to include in dropem are:

 * SVGA graphics:- This largely depends on me finding a graphic
   artist.
 * Better sound:- Anyone got any tracker rountines I could use?
 * Network support:- For multiplayer games with more than two
   people.

Of course if people register I will be much more likely to
implement these features.....

Enjoy the game, you will find the two player option superb!

Copyright
---------

Sorry, this is the boring part. Basically private individuals
can use Drop 'Em for as long as they wish before registering,
and can also give away copies as long as all the files are
included and not altered in any way.Shareware libraries and
bulletin boards can also distribute Drop 'Em freely. If you
wish to use Drop 'Em in a commercial release, or on a magazine
coverdisk you must obtain written permission from the author.
