JK Chat is a Windows application for chatting directly between two computers
over the net without lag - for Windows 95/NT or Win32s. Registered version
includes multi user version, so your PC acts as a chat server for your friends.
Download for free as sharware and then register. JK Chat will run in the
background and pop up if anyone wants to chat with you.

To install, simply place the JK Chat.exe file in a convenient directory and
run it. Windows Sockets is required, and on Windows 3.x systems, the Win32s
extensions are required (available from Microsoft.)

To connect to someone else who is running JK Chat, press the first button on
the toolbar or choose File/Connect... on the menu. Enter your friend's
host name or IP address, press Add, and then OK. JK Chat will then try to
connect to your friend's computer, and if successful will open a window.
This window is split into 2, with a toobar at the bottom. (You may have to make
the window bigger in order to see the two windows). Type into the lower
window. Ping, ID, File transfer are available using the small toolbar or
by using the popup menu (right mouse click).

The Options menu allows you to set several options, such as your Nick/realname,
startup options, ringing options, logging options etc. Send any suggestions
for features to me (see below for contact details).

JK Chat is shareware program, and you are free to use and disribute it as
long as you distribute it for free. However, the unregistered version has
some unpleasant habits, such as an annoying splash screen, messages sent
to the person you are chatting to telling them that you have not registered,
and limits on the length of chat sessions. The registered version also has
a very useful feature which enables you to host multiple user chat sessions,
creating 'channels' which your friends can connect to. No server is involved,
which means that there is little or no lag. The person who is hosting the
channel also has the option of 'kicking' users s/he does not like.

Registering JK Chat costs $15 or 10 UK pounds, and for more details see the
JK Chat homepage at http://jkchat.cjb.net, or if this fails try

Registered users will be emailed the full version and will receive all
future versions and bug fixes FREE.
