PROGRAM NAME: Plexel
--------------------

VERSION: 1.1 DATE: 13 Nov 1999; master11.exe, master11.zip
------------
This includes Control section containing a starter website.
Since you may edit this, you should only unzip when you first
download master11, to avoid losing your changes.

LATEST VERSION master.exe master.zip (no Control section - safe to unzip anytime)
--------------

All versions downloadable from http://www.plexos.com/Download_Plexel.htm

There is an older SIMTEL version at :-
ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/win95/webbrows/mastr_10.zip

QUICK INSTALLATION NOTE
-----------------------

If it hasn't done it automatically then you should set the browser
homepage manually to:-

file:///C:/Master/www/plexos.com/homeM.htm for Win9x or

file:///root/Master/www/plexos.com/homeM.htm for Linux

then Plexel will start automatically when the browser starts.
Alternatively, set it to:-

file:///C:/Master/index.html for Win9x or

file:///root/Master/index.html for Linux

and click the yellow 'Start Plexel' button to start it. However, Plexel
will then shutdown whenever you click the browser home.

PURPOSE:
--------

Portability, simplicity and ease of use have been major factors
in software development. It may therefore be logical to write in
Javascript and Java, and to stay in the browser as much as possible
so you don't need to know how to work the native OS. Over time the
native OS may become less significant. This is possible partly because
Java has a Runtime interface allowing execution and i/o to OS applications.

Plexel is a Javascript website editor also using Java to interface to
OS applications like image editors without leaving the browser.
New pages are created by word category rather like a directory,
and referenced in an uploadable dictionary. With more work Plexel can be
extended to replace wordprocessors and even some database applications.

It Creates a 'magazine' type website with three columns, header and
footer. Titled and framed image structures can be incorporated
and linked to other pages or enlarged images. Table structures
of almost any format can be inserted. Plexel has already been used
commercially for website design and management.

Plexel was however always a temporary measure, and a much better way has
been started. This is a new graphical language that sits on top of Javascript
and Java so you shouldn't have to see confusing lines of code any more. This
uses generated webpages in a network as the language structure, rather than
conventional objects and functions, and links strongly to neural-network concepts.
See the Plexos section of Master (webneurons).

FEATURES:
---------

Page structures are editable by selection or often by just clicking
a link in the structure.

New pages automatically linked to existing ones. Can use for non-uploaded
personal records too, like a filing cabinet. Can insert page title summaries
using OS application Wordnet. Page summaries spread to all relevant linked pages.

Copy an online image location to clipboard and paste it straight into
say Column 2 of one of your pages. Adjust column and header colors and
borders.

Relative operation, i.e. almost every feature operates on the currently
displaying browser page.

Run an OS File Manager from the browser and open in current Plexel display folder.

Page deletion automatically deletes all links to page and dictionary link.

Edit title and Meta Tags form. Bar Robots button. Interface to HTML
validator.

New page template or clickboard, can be pasted to all existing pages
without them losing any content. Individual Page and folder protection.

Special forms to process online word popularity searches. This is
so that your website can have content reflecting what people are
looking for.

Uploads changed files. Inserts automatic 'Clickboard' on new pages.
Works across folders by using relative links.

Javascript routines can be modified and new ones added to suit.
Javascript is searchable by keyword and function name.

Plexel applet compiles and reloads quickly within Plexel using Java
interface to Java Development Kit.

Includes the experimental Plexos neural-programming system in javascript.

Other features not mentioned here.

Makes it easy to set up an indexed directory type website framework which
can be added to later. Performs global page edits.
Help system incomplete at present. HELP available by Email.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
--------------------

This is the first release and because of the difficulty in
getting Javascript to load and save files to local hard drive,
this version only works fully with Navigator v4, and best with
versions later than 4.06 since these also allow
system clipboard access, a very useful feature.

IE adds many complications to the Javascript file i/o since it
does not allow the easy LiveConnect file load and save features
of Navigator's javascript. So the best way to serve both IE and
Navigator is to use an applet for file i/o and other LiveConnect
fetures. For IE we also had to use a Test Certificate. Full
compatibility will have to wait until the rest of the LiveConnect
routines have been transferred to the Java applet jmUtil.java.
Many thanks to Microsoft for this burden!

Only tested so far on Win 9X and Linux. Current version may operate on
other platforms. Future platforms will include Mac.

INSTALLATION:
-------------

master11.exe or master.exe are self extracting Win9X files and master11.exe
also allows the option of setting the homepage of any default pre-installed
Netscape Communicator on your computer. Plexel will then operate
when you start the browser.

For Linux use the .zip archives. Assuming you unzip to the root folder, then
you will end up with files in root/Master and root/Control (plus subfolders).

master11.exe is version 1.1 (13 Nov 1999) and includes a starter Control section

master.exe is the latest version, and will not overwrite your website (in
your Control section).

For Win95 Just double click the .exe file and the option box
should appear. Files are set to unzip to C:/Master and C:/Control.
For master11.exe allowing sysHome.bat to run will set the Navigator
homepage so that Plexel loads when the browser starts.

If it hasn't done it automatically then you should set the browser
homepage manually to:-

file:///C:/Master/www/plexos.com/homeM.htm

or file:///root/Master/www/plexos.com/homeM.htm for Linux

then when you start your browser, Plexel will start.

Alternatively, you can set the browser homepage to:

file:///C:/Master/index.html

or file:///root/Master/index.html for Linux

and click the yellow 'Start Plexel' button everytime you want to
start it. Plexel can occasionally clash with some online web pages so you
may want to use this setup anyway. Another remedy is to Exit Plexel
if you get a problem.

If you don't want to change your existing homepage then to run
Plexel you will have to open one of the above files in the browser,
by another method like bookmarking.

HELP is by Email to help@plexos.com

TO CREATE YOUR OWN WEBSITE:
---------------------------

Your first download should have been master11.exe or master11.zip and this includes
a starter website Manager located in the Control folder and subfolders.

Click 'Control' from almost any clickboard and you will be in your
personal Control area, as distinct from the 'Master' area which runs
Plexel.

From 'Control' click 'File Transfer' and 'FTP_Login' then set your
server details.

To start making webpages click 'Websites' from the Control clickboard,
then 'Website Homepage'. More instructions are there. Use the Plexel toolbar 'New'
button to make new pages.

Providing you are logged in and have set your FTP_Login page correctly,
you should be able to upload by clicking the 'Paste' button in the Plexel
toolbar, selecting 'Upload changed files in folder' and clicking 'OK'.

At present, HELP is by Email to me.
