1. Description

The SecureExplore ensures that private information is kept private. On
most corporate networks and home computers, usually more than one person
can access the file system (e.g. IT personnel) and thereby have access
to private information. With the SecureExplore you can password protect
your files with a 128 bit secret key. Without that key it is almost
impossible to decrypt any information previously encrypted using that key.

The SecureExplore is used to encrypt/decrypt all kind of files from the
Windows shell (e.g. Explorer.exe and Find.exe). The program uses a 128 bit
secret key algorithm to let a user (or group of users) encrypt/decrypt sensitive
information that no one else should have access to. There are other programs
around that let you do this, but the SecureExplore has been developed to be
extremely easy to use from within the Windows shell.

You can find more information about this program at http://www.globesoft.com.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Install

Before installing a new version of this program any old version should be
uninstalled from the control panel Add/Remove Programs group. It is also
recommended that you reboot before installing the new version, since the
SecureExplorer extends the Windows shell. We try to be backwards compatible,
but still we recommend that you decrypt all the files encrypted with a
previous version. If you however forget to do so, the new version will inform
you of what version of the SecureExplore is needed to decrypt the file and
you may download it from http://www.globesoft.com.

To install the SecureExplore simply double click on the SecureExplore.exe
file from the Explorer and run the setup program.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Word of Caution

Remember that if you accidentally delete a certificate and don't have it saved
(use the export function from the SecureExplore Administration program to save
a certificate to a file) you and no one else (including the author of this program)
should be able to decrypt that file.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. First Usage

Run the SecureExplore Administration program and create a new certificate.

Start the Explorer and select one or more files that you wish to encrypt. Right
click and select encrypt from the context menu or select encrypt from the Explorer
File menu.

If you want to encrypt files in recursive sub directories or of a specific type,
simply use the find file tool from the Explorer and search for the files that
you wish to encrypt. Again select encrypt from the file or context menu.

When you want to decrypt the files select the files that you wish
to decrypt (extension '.sec') and select decrypt from the file or context menu.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Sharing Encrypted files with others or between computers

If you want a group of people to be able to encrypt/decrypt the same files,
create a certificate with a known password that you distribute to all the people
in the group. The members can then later choose a different password for that
certificate.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Version Control

Before installing a new version of the SecureExplore, we recommend that you
decrypt all the files encrypted with the previous version. If you however
forget to do so, the new version will inform you of what version of the
SecureExplore is needed to decrypt the file and you may download it from
http://www.globesoft.com.
