===========================================================
This package contains the SSChart(TM) Candlestick Stock Charting Software (Version 1.60), by Simian Savants LLC.

Version 1.60 adds significant new features to SSChart. The data file format has changed. If you are using and older version of SSChart and wish to maintain your data follow the instruction below to convert the old format to the new

If you are using a previous release please rename your old sschart
directory to something else in order to save it as a backup, then
install this version as detailed below (same as previous versions).
The data file format has changed, it is not more compact. A utility
to convert the old format to the new is included if you want to
recover your existing data. This is called fileconv56.exe. This is
a command console utility, to use it open a dos (or cmd) window,
cd to the data directory (copy of your old data files), run the
utility in the data directory giving it a list of files (with wildcards)
to convert. Example:

cd \sschart\data
..\fileconv56 *.1min *.dyd *.wyd *.myd

This will convert all datafiles to the new format, you can then
copy or move them into the data directory for this version. The *.5min
files are no longer used and can be deleted.

New features:
DATA EXPORT from selected chart: Use {Data|Export Settings} to define
format, and {File|Export} or Alt-X to export the file.

ALERTS: select {Tools|Show Alerts} or use Shift-A to make the red and green alert bells visible on charts. The green bell sets the high price alert and the red bell the low price alert. To set or change an alert,
click on the bell (when you have done this successfully, a small gray box will appear attached to the mouse pointer tail), position the mouse cursor to the price point in the chart where you want the alert, press the mouse button again, a small yellow box with the price will appear, you can still adjust the price up or down by moveing the mouse until you release the mouse button. At this point the alert will be set and the bell color will become brighter. To delete an alert, point to the bell and hit the delete key. When alerts are triggered the symbol in the SLF map (if open) will change to a yellow color and the alert sound will play. The sounds are specified in the text file config\alerts.cfg. All alert sound files must reside in the SOUNDS directory. (Hint, you can search your system for other .wav files to use, move them to the sounds directory and modify the alerts.cfg file so these play for the alert)

BATCH UPDATE: When an slf file is selected, all daily data for these symbols can be updated by hitting the slf toolbar button for update (the one with the "U").

HORSE RACE: This is a variation on the slf map, which shows a column for
each symbol. Three panes can be activated under the VIEW menu, when the
horserace window is selected. The top pane is the daily candle for the each symbol scaled as percent change from previous close. The middle pane is a running last 5 minutes percent change for each symbol, and the bottom pane is the volume for each symbol relative to the volume yesterday at the same time of day.

HOT KEYS: Many new hot keys have been defined to speed common operations, these are shown in the menus where applicable.

SAVING PAGE LAYOUT: Use {File|Save page} to save your current workspace
layout to a named layout file. Use {File|Open page} to load a different
layout other than the one last saved.

Installation instructions for previous version below:

This document contains only a brief description of the package and its features, along with instructions for
its installation. Detailed documentation is included in the package, and can be viewed from the {Help|Contents} menu after the package is installed.

The documentation is in HTML format. Selecting {Help | Contents} from the SSChart
menu in the program will launch your web browser to view the documentation. In some instances the browser may not load the file, if this happens manually open the file .\HELP\index.htm (where "." is the directory where you installed SSChart) into your browser to view the documentation. (You can do this in either Netscape, or Internet Explorer by typing <Cntrl+O>, or selecting "Open" or "Open page" from the file menu.)

SSChart is a WIN32 (Windows95/98/NT/Me/2000) program to create candlestick stock charts. SSChart automatically downloads historical stock price and volume data from any of several free sources on the Internet. It plots this data in candlestick format (or OHLC or line format) with additional view panes optionally displayed for some technical studies. SSChart is also able to construct intraday charts using free quote sources on the internet and save several days of data collected.

SSChart is licensed software. When you first install this package, it will operate under an unregistered 3-day license. By registering (for free) either from the program itself or at http://www.simiansavants.com/
the program becomes licensed for 3-weeks, during which time it is fully functional, when this license period expires the program remains fully function with one exception: it will not download historical data for any period past the expiration date, importing data from files will be disabled, and it will no longer fetch quote data.

At any time, the user may purchase a permanent license, and receive a license "key" which will keep/restore full functionality to the program.

Single-user License Fee: $49
Purchase License Online at: http://www.simiansavants.com/orders.shtml

To be able to use SSChart, you need:

 1. Access to the Internet.
2. Have Windows networking configured for Internet access.

If you have been using a web browser (Netscape, or Internet Explorer) to access the Internet, you already meet both these requirements.

You may also import data from many text formats, in which case internet access is not required.

Installation Instructions

1.	Create a directory to hold the program (recommended directory name is SSChart but can be any name you wish).
2.	Download the program zip file into this directory and unzip the file (using pkzip).
3.	Run "sschart.exe" from this directory, the program will complete the installation process the first time it is run. (This includes creating sub directories: {DATA, CONFIG, FAVORITE, and HELP}, moving the appropriate files to these locations, and recording the installation location in the registry.

If you were using a previous release of SSChart

We recommend you first rename the directory where you installed the old version you have been running (to something like SSChart1.50), then create a new empty directory of the same name as the old directory, and install the new version there following the above steps. You previous license key should continue to work and be already installed when you follow this procedure. When you are satisfied the new version works correctly you may delete the old one, or keep it for backup.
