ShapeBook 1.0 ReadMe File

IMPORTANT INFORMATION, PLEASE READ

ShapeBook 1.0 is a quick reference tool for professionals
and students who need access to the detailing dimensions and
design properties of structural steel shapes. The dynamic
user interface makes shape selection quick and simple. The
detailing dimensions and design properties are displayed in
tabs on the main dialog box. The detailing dimensions tab
displays dimensions in easy to read fractional inches and
provides a fully dimensioned detail of the selected shape.
The design properties tab lists the shapes properties in
decimal format and labels each with standard nomenclature.
The property information tab provides helpful descriptions
of all the design properties.

To install the ShapeBook program you must first download
and install the Visual Basic 5 Runtime files from the
simtel.net software archives. The files you need to
download are:

mfc40.zip
vb500a.zip
vb500b.zip

These 3 files can be found at the following URL:

http://www.simtel.net/simtel.net/win95/dll.html

After you have installed the Runtime files, you will need to
run the installation program included in this zip package and
follow the instructions in the installation program.
The file name is:

spbks100.exe

Purchasing a ShapeBook License:
ShapeBook 1.0 is a Shareware program. You may use ShapeBook
for a 30 day trial period. If you would like to continue to
use ShapeBook after the 30 day trial period, you are required
to register ShapeBook. When you register ShapeBook you will
receive activation codes which will allow you to run
ShapeBook past the 30 day trial period. You will also be able
to transfer your license to a different computer in the event
you change computers for some reason.

Choose "ShapeBook OrderForm" from the Windows Start
Button menus, fill out the form and print it. Send the
printed form with your payment to the address on the
form. Do not e-mail the form, it is for printing only.
A separate set of codes will be required for each copy
of ShapeBook that you purchase.

The easiest way to authorize ShapeBook is to copy each
set of Serialization Codes from the Authorization dialog
to an e-mail message and e-mail it to
support@southforktech.com. Be sure to include your name
and address on the e-mail so we can associate it with
your payment. We will then promptly e-mail your
Activation Codes as soon as your payment clears. You can
use the same method to paste your Activation Codes into
the Authorization Dialog Box. If you do not have an
e-mail address, please enter the serialization codes in
the fields provided on the order form. Be careful when
entering these characters 0, O, I,1. See the help file
noted above for more details. To avoid any usage
interruptions, send the form and payment prior to the end
of the trial period then send your serialization codes
via e-mail when we request them from you.

Fees for Shareware Distribution:
Disk Vendors, Shareware Distributors, and Internet
Webmaster(s) may have charged a nominal fee for the
Shareware distribution of ShapeBook. This fee does not
constitute payment for ShapeBook registration, and
does not entitle the end user to use ShapeBook for
longer than the 30 day evaluation period.

Definition of Shareware:
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try
software before buying it. If you try a Shareware
program and continue using it, you are required to
register it. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and
retail software, and the copyright holder retains all
rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated in the
ShapeBook End User License Agreement (EULA) see the
"License.htm" file. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like retail authors, and the programs
are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in
the method of distribution. The author specifically
grants the right to copy and distribute the software,
either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For
example, some authors require written permission before
a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of
software. You should find software that suits your needs
and pocketbook, whether it's retail or Shareware. The
Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier,
because you can try before you buy. And because the
overhead is lower, prices are lower also. Shareware has
the ultimate money-back guarantee -> if you don't use
the product, you don't pay for it.

Distributing:
You are encouraged to pass a copy of ShapeBook along
to your friends and colleagues for evaluation. If you
do so, you must provide them with the entire set of
ShapeBook files.

Do not simply copy the files off your hard drive.
ShapeBook must be installed using the Setup program
or it will not function correctly!

If you intend to charge for distribution, you must
adhere to the requirements of the VENDINFO.DIZ file.
