To use your Fax Machine and Fax Modem as a scanner you will need the
following:
 o  SCANNER.TXT (This text file)
 o  SCANNER.BMP
 o  FaxMail for Windows or FaxMail Network for Windows
 o  Fax Modem
 o  Fax Machine
 o  9 volt Battery
 o  1 Phone Wire (with a plug on both ends)
 o  1 Red Jumper Wire (with an alligator clip on both ends)
 o  1 Green Jumper Wire (with an alligator clip on both ends)
 o  2 small Wire Nuts
 o  2 150 ohm 1/4 Watt Resistors
 o  Electrical Tape

Directions:
 o  Print SCANNER.TXT

 o  Use MS-PAINT to print SCANNER.BMP

 o  Install FaxMail on your computer

 o  Get a phone wire with a plug on both ends
 o  Cut the phone wire in the center
 o  Strip both green wires to 1/2" stripped
 o  combined the two green wires with the other 150 ohm resistors and
    wire-nut them together
 o  Strip both red wires to 1/2" stripped
 o  combined the two red wires with one of 150 ohm resistors and
    wire-nut them together
 o  Locate the green jumper wire with an alligator clip on both ends
 o  Clip one end of the green jumper to the resistor that is connected
    to the two green wires
 o  Connect the other end of the green jumper wire to the + (positive)
    side of the battery
 o  Locate the red jumper wire with an alligator clip on both ends
 o  Clip one end of the red jumper to the resistor that is connected to
    the two red wires
 o  Connect the other end of the red jumper wire to the - (negative)
    side of the battery

 o  Plug one end of the phone wire into the Fax Machine and the other
    end into the Fax Modem

 o  Load FaxMail's Event Monitor
 o  Place the to be scanned paper in the fax machine and send as usual
    giving 5 as the phone number
 o  Click the <Answer Now> button in the FaxMail Event Monitor
 o  When the scan is done, FaxMail will notify you and you will be
    able to <View>, <Print>, <Save>, <Move>, <etc> the fax

Note:
 o  Do not strip the Black or Yellow Wire.  They are phone line 2.
    Put tape on them.

 o  Be sure the bear wires are dressed and/or taped to avoid shorting.

 o  You can use an 8v to 12 volt DC 50mA (or above) power supply
    instead of the 9 volt battery if you will be using the scanner a
    lot.  If you do, observing the polarity, put a 1000uf electrolytic
    capacitor across the power supply.
