8-Track Auto Tape Player (120-1802) Installation Faxback Doc. # 6670

Before You Start:

1. Determine the best location. Be sure the controls are within the
driver's reach and the unit will not obstruct any of the vehicle's
    controls.

2. Consider how you will do the wiring-you might want to make some or
all of the electrical connections before the mechanical
    installation.

3. When you drill holes, be very careful not to damage your car's
    wiring or trim.

4. Be sure your vehicle has the correct voltage and polarity before
making any electrical connection. It must be 12-volt, DC, negative
    ground.

5. Never operate the unit with the speakers disconnected.

6. At each step, be sure the electrical and mechanical connections are
    tightly secured.

WIRING

This player is designed for 12-volt, negative ground electrical systems.
If your vehicle's electrical system is different, you will need a special
adapter from you Radio Shack store.

1. Connect the single Black wire to the frame of the vehicle or the
    negative side of the battery.

2. Connect the Red wire (with the in-line fuse holder) to an accessory
terminal on the vehicle's fuse block.

3. Connect the Green wire to the marked terminal on the left speaker.

4. Connect the Gray wire to the marked terminal on the right speaker.

5. Connect the Black wires to the unmarked terminals of both speakers.

6. After checking all the connections, plug the connector into the
      real-panel receptacle.

SPEAKERS

Your tape player is designed for use with one 4-8 ohm speaker per channel.
The Radio Shack store has a wide selection of speakers-from build-in
flush-mount to hang-on types.

MOUNTING

Select suitable location considering appearance, ease of operation and
safety.

The unit is small enough to fit in most glove compartments (less chance of
theft).
Remove the 4 (A) mounting screws and washers.
Using mounting bracket as a guide, drill 2 holes in the underside of car
dashboard. Avoid drilling in the underside of car dashboard. Avoid
drilling in areas of wiring or other obstructions. Fasten bracket to
dashboard using the hardware provided, (1) (2) and (3). Mount unit in
bracket using the 4 (A) mounting screws and washers.

A metal strap (4) is provided to attach the back of the unit to a
convenient chassis ground screw or bolt under the dash. Use hardware
supplied to fasten this strap (it will insure good mechanical mounting as
well as good electrical ground connection).
