Model 129 (160-0829) Power Source Faxback Doc. # 6296

You can power the camcorder from any of three sources:
The AC adapter/charger, the battery, or your vehicle battery.

Using the AC ADAPTER/CHARGER

1. Connect one end of the power cord to the AC adapter/charger's DC OUT
    jack.

2. Connect the other end of the power cord to the camcorder's DC IN 6V
    jack.

3. Plug the AC adapter/charger's power cord into an AC outlet.

You can now operate the camcorder.

Caution: The supplied AC adapter/charger is specially designed for use
with the Model 129 camcorder. Never use it to power any other
          device.

USING THE BATTERY

You can power the camcorder using the supplied battery. You must charge
the battery before you use it.

Charging the Battery

Caution: Use only the suppled AC adapter/charger or optional vehicle
adapter/charger to charge the battery. Use of any other
adapter/charger could damage the battery. Also, do not use the
supplied AC adapter/charger to charge any battery except the
          type supplied.

To Charge the battery, do the following:

1. Align the battery's alignment mark with the adapter/charger's
    alignment mark.

2. Gently press the battery against the adapter/charger, and slide the
battery to the right until it locks in place.

3. Plug the AC adapter/charger's power cord into an AC outlet. The
    green indicator lights.

The adapter/charger's CHARGE indicator lights and charging begins. When
the battery is fully charged, the CHARGE indicator lights red.

Notes: It takes about 130 minutes to fully charge the battery.

The exact charging time depends on the ambient temperature and the
        condition of the battery.

4. When charging is complete, remove the battery from the adapter/
charger by sliding the battery to the left; then disconnect the
    adapter/charger from the wall outlet.

Battery Status Indicators

When the battery is fully charged, E- -F appears in the viewfinder. The
two bars between E and F indicate the remaining battery power.

As the battery's power is used, the bars disappear one at a time. When
only one bar appears, battery power is low.

When the battery's power gets lower, BATTERY appears in the viewfinder.
The indicator next to the power switch flashes, and in a few seconds the
camcorder automatically turns off. Recharge the battery or power
the camcorder from the supplied AC adapter or the optional DC adapter.

You can order additional batteries from your local Radio Shack store so
you can use one battery while charging another.

Attaching the Battery to the Camcorder

1. Align the battery's alignment mark with the camcorder's alignment
    mark.

2. Gently press the battery against the camcorder, and slide the battery
to the right until it clicks into position.

Removing the Battery from the Camcorder

1. Turn off the camcorder.

2. Push and hold down BATTERY EJECT, and slide the battery to the left.

Note: Always stop the tape and turn off the camcorder before you remove
the battery. The tape remains wound around the video head during
recording or playback. You might damage the tape if you remove
the battery during recording or playback.

Battery Usage Hints

Recording with many starts and stops, frequent zooming, and recording
in low temperatures might shorten actual recording times. Be sure to
turn the power off when not recording. We recommend you prepare an
extra battery so you do not have to interrupt your recording.

Do not use an insufficiently charged or discharged battery. Use of
such batteries might cause the power to automatically stop during
camcorder operation, possibly damaging the tape, battery, and
  camcorder.

The camcorder consumes a small amount of battery power even when the
camcorder's power is off. If you are not going to use the camcorder
for a while, remove the battery before storing it.

Extending Battery Life

Recharge the battery immediately after the recording session is over.
Leaving the battery uncharged can irreparably damage the battery,
  preventing further recharging or use.

Recharge the battery again right before recording. A battery stored
for an extended time loses some power, resulting in decreased recording
  time.

Recharge the battery at least once every 6 months even when the battery
  is not used.

Store the battery in a dry, cool place.

Replacing the Battery While Recording

1. If BATTERY flashes in the viewfinder during recording, press REC
START/STOP to stop recording. Then turn off the power. Do not press
    STOP.

Note: Be sure the power indicator is off before you remove the battery.

2. Replace the battery with a charged one.

3. Turn on the power. || PAUSE appears in the viewfinder and then
    changes to ||----

4. Press REC START/STOP to continue recording from the same place as
    before.

USING A VEHICLE ADAPTER/CHARGER

Caution: Use this procedure only if your vehicle has a 12-volt negative-
ground electrical system. Use only the recommended vehicle
          adapter/-charger (CMC No. 16-2304).

To power the camcorder using the vehicle adapter/charger, do the
following:

1. Connect one end of the power cord to the vehicle adapter/charger's DC
    OUT jack.

2. Connect the other end of the power cord to the camcorder's DC IN 6V
    jack.

3. Plug the vehicle adapter/charger's power cord into your vehicle's
    cigarette-lighter socket.

You can now operate the camcorder as usual.

Cautions: The recommended vehicle adapter/charger is specially designed
for use with the Model 129 camcorder. Never use it to power
           any other device.

When you unplug the camcorder, remove the vehicle adapter/
charger from the cigarette-lighter socket first, then unplug
the power cord from the camcorder.

Notes: Be sure to push the plug completely into the cigarette-lighter
        socket.

Be sure the socket is free from ashes and other debris.
