FaxMate (250-3063) Errors/Trouble Shooting Faxback Doc. # 5385

If unable to send or receive faxes:
*Be sure that the phone cord coming from
the wall socket is securely attached to the connector marked LINE on the
    fax board.
*Call the phone number connected to your computer (from another number)
    to be sure it rings.
*Check your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to verify that CFBACK is loading automatic-
ally or type CFBACK to load CFBACK if it is not loaded.
*Be sure that sending and receiving are enabled on the Status screen.
*If the numbers you call are overseas, or if your FaxMate is connected
through a PBX, you might need to change the Line Compensation Adjustment
(see Appendix A). Also, contact the prospective recipient to insure they
have a Group III fax machine.
*Be sure that sending/receiving are enabled on the Status screen.
*Call the fax number yourself and listen to make sure that a fax machine
answers after just a few rings.

If you can send faxes but cannot receive them:
*When FaxMate is running in the foreground, check the display for a warn-
ing indicating that the available disk space is near zero. If so, you
must delete old fax messages or other files from your hard disk.
*Be sure receiving is enabled on the Status screen.

If you can receive faxes but cannot send them:
*Be sure that the time and date on your computer and on the Send Faxes
    screen are correct.
*Be sure that (receiving) is enabled on the Status screen.

If you cannot print a fax:
*Be sure that your printer is on line, has paper, is properly connected.
*Be sure that printing is enabled on the Status screen.
*Be sure you have selected the correct printer during installation.
*Run INSTALLF to check the printer configuration. (See Modifying Existing
    Parameters - Printer Configuration.)
*Be sure that the printer is connected to the correct port.
*Be sure that you use the DOS Mode command correctly for your printer.
*If you get an ERROR 20 on your HP LaserJet, it night not have enough
memory. Select a lower printer resolution. (See Modifying Existing Para-
    meters - Printer Configuration.)
*Be sure that you reboot your computer after running INSTALLF.

If your printer skips pages or compresses them:
*Check INSTALLF to be sure that the correct paper size was specified.

If your printed faxes are mixed with other files:
*You printed files form another application or the DOS prompt while Fax-
Mate was printing. Be sure that the print queue is empty before you print
   from other programs.

If you scan a document using a full page scanner and find that the right-most
third of the document is missing when you convert to fax:
*You have scanned the document at 300 dots per inch while fax only sup-
ports 204 dots per inch horizontal by 196 dots per inch vertical. Reset
your scanner to 200 dots per inch and rescan your document.

If DOS file transfer does not work:
*Check the FaxMate version number at the other computer. If the remote
computer is running version 1.7 or earlier, you must use the command-
line interface to send DOS files. (See Appendix C or Commands above for
     the command syntax.

IF you get the Message:

Board, or setting info above) Update the I/O address on the Hardware
Configuration screen in the INSTALLF program.
