DMP-310 (26-2876) Setup Faxback Doc. # 4717

Before you can use your printer, you must complete the procedures described
in this section.

CHOOSING A LOCATION

When you choose a location for your printer, follow these guidelines:

* Place the printer on a sturdy surface to prevent excessive vibration
  during operation.

* Be sure there is room for the paper to feed.

* Be sure the printer and computer are close enough to connect with the
printer cable you plan to use. Your local Radio Shack store sells 6-foot
and 12-foot printer cables. For 25 feet of additional length, you can
also purchase a cable and cable extender. For details, see "Connecting
  to Your Computer."

* Do not place the printer near refrigerators, industrial equipment, or
  other sources of electrical interference.

* Do note place any object that weighs more than 6.7 lbs. on top of the
printer. If your computer weighs more than 6.7 lbs., be sure there is
room near the printer to place the computer.

* Do not place any device that generates vibration or heat on top of the
  printer.

* Be sure that any device you place near the printer has an FCC rating of
  Class B or better.

* Do not place anything on top of the carriage cover.

REMOVING THE SHIPPING RETAINERS

After you unpack the printer, complete the following steps.

NOTE: Keep the box and packing materials in case you need to store or move
the printer.

1. Remove the tape that secures the power cord to the printer.

2. Press in both sides of the carriage cover and remove it as shown. Then,
remove the tie band that secures the print head.

CAUTION: Failure to remove the tie band before you print could cause
serious damage to the printer.

3. Replace the carriage cover.

4. Slide the paper cassette release in the direction shown. The paper
   cassette pops out.

5. Slide out the paper cassette. Then, remove the cardboard from the paper
   cassette.

6. Slide the paper cassette back into place.
