3830 SL/C (250-3576) Addendum Faxback Doc. # 1534

The Tandy 3830 SL/C Color Notebook Computer is much like the monochrome
version of the Tandy 3830SL. The differences between the two models are as
follows:

* The 3830 SL/C has 4 MB of standard memory instead of 2 MB. You can
upgrade the memory for a total of 8MB.

* The built-in features of the 3830 SL/C eliminate the need for the
  following:

  --The contrast control
--The key combination FN+F1 (used to select different color maps)
--The Max Contrast option in the setup program (SETUP383)
  --The utility program CLOCK383

* The 3830 SL/C setup program has a display timeout control. This feature
helps protect the screen from image burn and prevents the computer from
overheating if you close the display panel while the computer is on. The
timeout options are 1,2,4,8,16, and 28 minutes, and the default timeout is
4 minutes. You can set the display timeout in the power program (POWER383)
or the setup program (SETUP383). Any activity on the computer's internal
  keyboard restarts the timeout period.

* When the battery for the 3830 SL/C is fully discharged, charging the
battery while the computer is running can take up to 4 hours. With heavy
floppy or hard-drive access, charging can take up to 6 hours.

* The 3830 SL includes Advanced Power Management (APM). APM helps save
battery power by operating the computer more efficiently. To enable APM,
add the following line to the computer's config.sys file:

    device-c:\dos\power.exe

To select APM options, type power at the DOS prompt or select the power icon
on the control panel in Windows.

Setup Program Defaults:

Page 30 of your Tandy 3830 SL Computer User's Guide lists the default
settings for the computer's setup program (Setup383). Two of these default
settings are incorrect. The correct default setting for FDC (Floppy Disk
Controller) Standby is ON, not OFF. The correct default setting for the
Standby Mode timeout is 04 MIN, not 00 Min.

America Online:

Your Tandy 3830 SL Notebook Computer comes with America Online installed on
the hard disk. To load America Online, type aol at the MS-DOS prompt and
press <ENTER>.
