Notice:
If you use the Product Recovery CD-ROM shipped with your ThinkPad to
restore the Windows 95/98 preload environment, you don't need this
package. This package is required when you install Windows 95/98 without
the Product Recovery CD-ROM.
What This Package Does
----------------------
The ThinkPad listed below incorporates several new devices that were not
available when Windows 95 was announced.
This package provides the supplement files to support new devices and
fix some problems for Windows 95 users.
The following model is supported:
- ThinkPad 390E
To determine if you have to update the supplement files or not, please
refer to the "Summary of Changes" section.
To update the supplement files, please refer to the "Installation Guide"
section.

the Port Replicator with Advanced EtherJet Feature.
- (Fix) None of Modem PC Cards can be detected when they are inserted
in the Port Replicator with Advanced EtherJet Feature.

- (Fix) The F8 key has to be depressed during the Windows 95 unattended
installation. Without depressing it within just a few seconds,
the entire installation process must be restarted from scratch.
To fix this problem, whole the installation procedures are
changed.
Installation Guide
------------------
(Note)
- To determine if you have to update the supplement files or not, please
refer to the "Summary of Changes" section.
- If you use the Product Recovery CD-ROM shipped with your ThinkPad to
restore the Windows 95/98 preload environment, you don't need this
package. This package is required when you install Windows 95/98
without the Product Recovery CD-ROM.
The following versions of Windows 95 are available for your computer:
- Retail Release Version (OSR0)
- Service Pack Version 1 (OSR1)
- OEM Service Release Version 2 without USB Supplement (OSR2)
- OEM Service Release Version 2 with USB Supplement (OSR2.1)
- OEM Service Release Version 2.5 (OSR2.5)
The OSR0 is an off-the-shelf version of Windows 95 and is available at
any retail store.
The OSR1 can be downloaded from the Microsoft Internet home page
(URL http://www.microsoft.com).
The OSR2.x is available only as preloaded versions.
YOUR VERSION OF WINDOWS 95:
You can check which version of Windows 95 you are using by clicking on
Start and moving the cursor to Settings and Control Panel, and then
double-clicking on System. You can check the version in this window.
Read the numbers under "System".
- 4.00.950 means that it is Windows 95 OSR0.
- 4.00.950a means that it is Windows 95 OSR1.
- 4.00.950B means that it is Windows 95 OSR2 or OSR2.1.
- 4.00.950C means that it is Windows 95 OSR2.5.
HOW TO INSTALL:
How to install Windows 95 OSR0 or OSR1
--------------------------------------
1. Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs to your hard disk.
1-1. Make a temporary directory (for instance, C:\WIN95) and make sure
enough hard disk space is available to store the cabinet files and
installation programs (the required free space varies depending on
the language of Windows 95).
1-2. Copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from
the \WIN95 directory of Windows 95 retail CD-ROM.
Type "COPY src_cd:\WIN95\*.* destination" and press Enter.
Where src_cd is the drive letter of CD-ROM drive (e.g. D, E,..) and
destination is the drive letter and temporary directory made in
step 1-1 (e.g. C:\WIN95)
2. Copy updated files from Windows 95 supplement file to the temporary
directory.
2-1. Put the Windows 95 supplement file diskette into the floppy drive.
2-2. From a command prompt, type in the following and press enter:
COPY A:\SYSTEM\*.* destination
Where destination is the drive letter and temporary directory made
in step 1-1 (e.g. C:\WIN95).
3. Start Installation from the temporary directory.
3-1. Run SETUP.EXE in the temporary directory.
3-2. Refer to the Windows 95 documentation and instructions on the
screen to complete the installation.
3-3. If 'pcimp.pci' could not be found, click on 'Skip File' to
continue.
4. Enable 'PCIC compatible PCMCIA controller'. The method is:
4-1. Click on 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel'.
4-2. Double-click on the 'System' icon.
4-3. Click on the 'Device Manager' tab.
4-4. Double-click on 'PCIC compatible PCMCIA controller'.
4-5. Click on 'Undocked (Current)' to enable this option and follow the
direction.
4-6. Shut down and restart Windows 95. Follow the direction.
5. If needed, apply Windows 95 Service Pack 1 available from Microsoft
Internet home page.

6. If you attach a "Port Replicator with Advanced EtherJet Feature" to
the system, please follow the following steps to enable 'PCIC or
compatible PCMCIA controller" under docked.
6-1. Click on 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel'.
6-2. Double-click on the 'Add New Hardware' icon.
6-3. Click on 'Next', and then select 'No' and 'Next'.
6-4. When the 'Add New Hardware Wizard' shows 'Select the type of
hardware you want to install', then choose (click) 'PCMCIA socket'
and click on 'Next' to continue.
6-5. Select 'PCIC or compatible PCMCIA controller' then click on 'Next'
and follow the direction.
6-6. Shut down and restart the system.
Enable the second 'PCIC compatible PCMCIA controller' by choosing
'Dock1 (Current)', then follow the direction. And shut down and
restart the system.
6-7. Double-click on the 'PCIC or compatible PCMCIA controller' that
has a yellow mark sign.
6-8. Click on 'Undocked' to disable the device. Then click 'Resources'.
6-9. Set 'Setting based on:' to 'Basic configuration 5'. Then click on
"Change Setting" and change the 'Value' to '3E4-3E5'.
Click on 'OK' and follow the direction.
6-10. Shut down and restart the system.
How to install Windows 95 OSR2, OSR2.1 or OSR2.5
------------------------------------------------
1. Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs to your hard
disk.
1-1. Make a temporary directory (for instance, C:\WIN95) and make sure

the \WIN95 directory of Windows 95 OSR2 CD-ROM.

COPY A:\IR\*.* destination and press enter

3. Start Installation from the temporary directory.
3-1. Run SETUP.EXE in the temporary directory.
3-2. Refer to the Windows 95 documentation and instructions on the
screen to complete the installation.
Next step is to install some fix modules on Windows 95 OSR2.5.
4. Install PC Card driver fix.
4-1. Click on 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel'.
4-2. Double-click on the 'System' icon.
4-3. Click on the 'Device Manager' tab.
4-4. Click on 'PCIC or compatible PCMCIA controller'.
4-5. Click on 'Remove' button to remove 'PCIC or compatible PCMCIA
controller'.
4-6. Shut down and restart the computer.
5. Install USB driver fix.
5-1. Insert Windows 95 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
5-2. Run src_cd:\other\usb\usbsupp.exe from Windows 95 CD-ROM.
src_cd : Drive letter of CD-ROM drive (e.g. C, D,..)
5-3. Shut down and restart the computer.
5-4. Click on 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel'.
5-5. Double-click on the 'System' icon.
5-6. Click on the 'Device Manager' tab.
5-7. Double click on 'Other Devices'.
5-8. Double click on one of the 'PCI Universal Serial Bus'.
5-9. Click on 'Driver' tab.
5-10. Click on 'Update Driver...' button.
5-11. Select 'Yes (Recommended)' and click on 'Next' button.
5-12. Type tgt_drv:\tgt_dir in the Location and click on 'OK' button.
tgt_drv:\tgt_dir : Drive letter and temporary directory made in
1-1 (e.g. C:\WIN95)
5-13. Click on 'Finish' button.
5-14. If 'uhcd.sys' is not found, type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM in the 'Copy
file from:' and click on 'OK' button.
5-15. Click on 'Close' button in the Properties dialog box.
5-16. Shut down and restart the computer.

1. System patch files (for OSR0/1/2.0/2.1/2.5)
machine.inf:
Let Windows 95 recognize Intel PIIX4, 430TX, 440BX, and then
Windows 95 can load the relative drivers.
mshdc.inf:
Let Windows 95 recognize Intel 82371AB IDE BUS Master Controller,
and then Windows 95 can load the relative drivers.
2. USB patch file (for OSR2.0/2.1/2.5)
usb.inf:
Let Windows 95 recognize Intel 82371AB USB and Windows 95 can
load relative drivers.
3. PC Card patch files (for OSR2.0/2.1/2.5)
pcmcia.inf:
Let Windows 95 recognize TI TI1250,TI1251A PCMCIA controller and
load its drivers.
pci.vxd, cbss.vxd, configmg.vxd, pccard.vxd:
The virtual drivers of TI1250,TI1251B.
4. IR patch files (for OSR2.0/2.1/2.5)
msports.inf, msirport.inf, infrared.inf:
Let Windows 95 recognize Built-in Infrared port.
