2.0 ADAPTER CONFIGURATION

The Crystal LAN (tm) Ethernet Adapter in your system is a Plug and
Play (PnP) device. The PnP BIOS or PnP OS will automatically
assign hardware resources (ie. IRQ and Base I/O Address) to the
device.

Below is the default configuration of the Crystal LAN Ethernet Adapter:

  Configuration Mode: PnP Enabled (Automatic Configuration)
  IRQ: Assigned by PnP BIOS or PnP OS.
  Base I/O Address: Assigned by PnP BIOS or PnP OS.
  Media Type:           10Base-T cable
  Transmission Mode: Auto negotiated (10MB, half-duplex/full-duplex)

3.0 INSTALLING MULTIPLE ADAPTERS

Additional Crystal LAN (or other CS8920-based) Ethernet Adapter option boards
may be installed in the same PC running one of the following operating systems:

    NetWare Server 3.12 or 4.X
    Windows NT (3.51 or above)
    Windows 95,
    OS/2 LAN Server or Client (NDIS 2.0.1 driver)

A maximum of three Ethernet adapters are supported in the same PC system. The
general procedure for installing multiple CS8920-based option boards under
each of these operating systems is described below. Refer to the documentation
provided by the option board's vendor for more detailed information.

Note: These procedures apply only to the installation of additional Crystal LAN
(or other CS8920-based) Ethernet Adapter option boards. Refer to the
manufacturer's instructions for the installation of Ethernet option boards
from other vendors.

3.1 NetWare Server 3.12 and 4.X

Record the serial number for each adapter before installing. (The serial
number may be obtained by running the system setup utility on power-up.)
If your CS8920-based adapter is not configured for Plug and Play automatic
configuration, you will have to install and configure the adapters one at a
time to avoid IO conflicts.

  1. Record the serial number of the adapter, install
     it in the PC, and reboot.

  2. When loading the driver for multiple adapters, use
     the adapter's serial number (S/N) to specify the
     adapter for which you are loading the driver. The
     following example loads the driver for two Crystal
     LAN Ethernet adapters. The first adapter will use the
     default ETHERNET_802.2 frame type with the second
     using ETHERNET_II.

     Example:
     LOAD C:\NETWARE\EODIISA SERIAL=[1st S/N]
     BIND IPX to EODIISA NET=[unique hex network number]
     LOAD C:\NETWARE\EODIISA FRAME=ETHERNET_II SERIAL=[2nd S/N]
     BIND IPX to EODIISA NET=[second unique hex network number]

3.2 Windows NT

Record the serial number for each adapter before installing. (The serial
number may be obtained by running the system setup utility on power-up.)
If your CS8920-based adapter is not configured for Plug and Play automatic
configuration, you will have to install and configure the adapters one at a
time to avoid IO conflicts.

   1. Follow the typical procedure for adding a Network Adapter and driver
      installation using the Network Control Panel. (Refer to the README.NT
      text file for detailed information on adapter and driver installation.)

   2. When prompted for a serial number from the "Add Network Adapter" dialog,
      enter the serial number for the adapter you are installing. Note: if
      you do not enter the correct serial number for the adapter, the driver
      will not load and you will not be able to connect to the network with
      the new adapter.

3.3 Windows 95

Record the serial number for each adapter before installing. (The serial
number may be obtained by running the system setup utility on power-up.)
If your CS8920-based adapter is not configured for Plug and Play automatic
configuration, you will have to install and configure the adapters one at a
time to avoid IO conflicts.

   1. Follow the typical procedure for adding a network adapter and driver.
      (You will either be prompted to load driver software when the new
      hardware is detected by the system on start-up or use the Network
      Control Panel to add a new adapter.) Refer to the README.W95 text
      file for detailed information on adapter and driver installation.)

   2. When prompted for a serial number from the "Add Network Adapter" dialog,
      enter the serial number for the adapter you are installing. Note: if
      you do not enter the correct serial number for the adapter, the driver
      will not load and you will not be able to connect to the network with
      the new adapter.

   2. From the Network control panel dialog, select the adapter's name from
      the adapter list and click on the "Properties" button.

   3. Click on the "Advanced" tab. Select the "SerialNumber" setting
      and enter the adapter's serial number.

   4. Configure additional settings as required and click "Continue" to
      proceed with the installation. Note: if you do not enter the correct
      serial number for the adapter, the driver will not load and you will
      not be able to connect to the network with the new adapter.

3.4 OS/2 LAN Server and OS/2 Client (NDIS 2.0.1 driver)

Record the serial number for each adapter before installing. (The serial
number may be obtained by running the system setup utility on power-up.)
If your CS8920-based adapter is not configured for Plug and Play automatic
configuration, you will have to install and configure the adapters one at a
time to avoid IO conflicts.

   1. Install the adapter and driver in the normal manner. (Refer to the
      README.NDI text file for detailed information on adapter and driver
      installation.) Depending on the installation method used, you may be
      prompted for a serial number. If so, enter the correct serial number
      for the adapter at this time and proceed to step 3.

   2. If not prompted for the serial number during driver installation, edit
      the PROTOCOL.INI file after driver installation (but before you restart
      the system and try to connect to the network).

      In the PROTOCOL.INI section under the label for the driver you just
      installed ([MS$CRYSTAL] in most cases), add the line:

      SERIAL= "12345678"

      where 12345678 represents the eight-digit serial number for the adapter
      you are installing. (Replace 12345678 with the actual serial number of
      your adapter.)

      Following is an example driver section of PROTOCOL.INI file with entries
      for two Crystal LAN Ethernet Adapters.

      ;
      ; Sample PROTOCOL.INI
      ;
      [MS$CRYSTAL]
      ;
      ; For second instance the DriverName is ENDSXX2$
      ;
       DriverName=ENDSXX$
       DriverName=ENDSXX2$
      ;
      ; SERIAL is an 8 digit hex serial number for the card. For single
      ; instance it is optional. For multiple instances of card it is
      ; mandatory for both the cards.
      ;
       SERIAL = "12345678"
       SERIAL = "36285961"

   3. Reboot the system to load the driver(s).
